Ward 14 is a south Calgary riding that was served for 15 years by long-time Calgary city councillor, Peter Demong.

Demong decided he wouldn’t run again earlier this year, leaving an open seat. He first won a seat back in 2010, defeating then-incumbent Linda Fox-Mellway, who ultimately finished fourth behind Demong, Richard Dur and Shawn Kao.

This election, seven people are hoping to lock up the Ward 14 seat, and two of the three municipal parties are represented.

Ward 14

Ward 14 is a south Calgary ward sandwiched between Ward 12 and Ward 13 to form Calgary’s southern border. Its boundary is Macleod Trail in the west, and the Bow River and then Deerfoot / Stoney Trail in the east.

There are 14 communities in this ward, with many of them established communities, however, there are two newer communities on the southernmost portion, and one still-developing community.

According to the 2021 federal census, 86,450 people were living in the ward. With Calgary’s substantial population growth over the past four years, and some new community growth, the population number is likely modestly higher.

The seven candidates hoping to represent Ward 14 are:

Chima Akuchie – Independent

Erin Everbukh – Independent

Devin Elkin – Independent

Keener Hachey – A Better Calgary Party

Landon Johnston – Independent

Sunjiv Raval – Independent

Ryan Stutt – Calgary Party
