We switch from west side to east side with our next candidate collection, this time visiting Ward 10.
Incumbent councillor Andre Chabot, who is now running with the Communities First Party, fought off 10 other challengers in 2021, winning the ward back with 6,414 votes, less than 900 votes more than second-place candidate Abed Harb.
Chabot is one of the longest serving Calgary city councillors, having first been elected in a 2005 byelection. He did leave for a short time to pursue a potential provincial political life, however, that was short-lived.
This year, there are three challengers for Chabot’s seat: Nickie Brockhoff, Mahmoud Mourra, and Tarlochan Singh Sidhu.
Ward 10
Ward 10 is situated in mostly northeast Calgary, with Memorial Drive as its southern border and McKnight Blvd as its northern border. There are 11 communities in this ward.
According to Statistics Canada 2021 census data, there were 89,485. Though Calgary’s population has grown significantly in that time, no large-scale new communities have been added to this ward, so it’s unclear how the population would have changed.
There are four candidates running in this ward:
Nickie Brockhoff – The Calgary Party
Andre Chabot – Communities First
Tarlochan Singh Sidhu – Independent
