Greasy chicken hearts? Calgary Stampede goes wild with new food list

Just when you thought they’d brought you every kind of food possible, the Calgary Stampede comes up with something crazy and new. It’s become a tradition.

For this year’s Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth they’ve got a whole host of new fares (not fairs, get it), with 50 wild and wacky delights to keep the stomach satisfied.

Here’s a few of the new ones you’ll probably (maybe) enjoy:

As far as prairie oysters go, these ones do look good. CALGARYSTAMPEDE.COM
  • Deep fried banana peppers
  • Greasy chicken hearts
  • Bacon onion bombs
  • Cricket Grilled Cheese
  • Prairie oyster balls
  • The Hangover mac and cheese
  • Pop rock mini doughnuts
  • Deep fried, bacon wrapped Reese’s cup (OK, this one sounds good)
  • Giant squid on a stick
  • KitKat fries

And obviously 40 more! Here’s the full list: https://www.calgarystampede.com/stampede/attractions/food

“When developing the new food list each year, we have one guiding principle; each new food should be an experience,” said James Radke, Midway Operations Manager at the Calgary Stampede, in a prepared release.

“If a new food offering evokes excitement, delight, nostalgia or thrill, that’s when we know we’ve done our job.”

We’re not sure about evoking nostalgia – I mean, have you ever really eaten greasy chicken hearts and had a good memory?

The Calgary Stampede runs from July 6 – 15 this year and you can still get your Calgary Stampede Superpass until June 11 for just $39 plus GST.

If you try the foods, you might not want to mix in too many rides. Just sayin’.
