Three youths are facing first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of an Abbeydale teen this summer.
Back on Aug. 1, 2025, Calgary police were called to the 300 block of Abergale Drive NE after receiving reports of a person in medical distress. When they arrived, they found 16-year-old Carter Spivak-Villeneuve dead.
An autopsy later confirmed that the teen had died as a result of homicide.
On Thursday, Calgary police said following an extensive investigation that identified several potential youth suspects believed to have involvement in Carter’s death, they made the arrests.
“Although the investigation remains ongoing, at this time, it is believed that the suspects were known to Carter and that they had arranged to meet Carter that night,” CPS said in a media statement.
“Carter’s death is alleged to be the result of an ongoing dispute.”
On Nov. 4, with the help of Saskatchewan RCMP, a 15-year-old male was arrested on the Muskowekwan First Nation and charged with one count of first-degree murder. On Nov. 12, Calgary police arrested and charged a 15-year-old male in Calgary. A third youth was also charged with first-degree murder.
“The ages of those involved in this case are deeply troubling,” said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the CPS Homicide Unit.
“The loss of Carter is a devastating reminder of how seemingly insignificant conflict between youth can escalate with irreversible consequences. Carter’s death was senseless and the lives of everyone involved have now been forever changed.”
Calgary police continue to investigate Spivak-Villeneuve’s death. Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
The accused cannot be named under provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
