New Year’s Eve fireworks to launch from Calgary Tower

Calgary’s New Year’s Eve celebration of the sound and fury of synchronized fireworks to music will be launched from the Calgary Tower again this year.

The show will begin at 11:55 p.m. on Dec. 31, with a traditional blessing by Elder Clarence Wolfleg, followed by a countdown to midnight by Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

“2022 has been a year of renewed connections and the celebrations continue as we ring in the New Year,” said Mayor Gondek.

Music will be broadcast on CJSW 90.9 FM alongside the fireworks, and will feature music from DH Shrub, The Corey Hotline, Shurshock and Miss Fudge, Arkells, Cour de Pirate, Aly and AJ, and Caity Gyorgy.

Calgary Transit service will be extending its hours to 4 a.m. for routes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 22, 301, 302. The Orange, Yellow, Teal and Purple MAX lines will run until 3 a.m.

Calgarians who can’t make it downtown, or to one of the city’s downtown overlooks to view the fireworks in person will be able to watch the show live on Calgary.ca/NYE.

Roads will be closed from Centre Street SE from 6 Avenue SE to 9 Avenue SE, 9 Avenue SW from 1 Street SW to 1 Street SE, and along the sidewalk in front of the Calgary Tower.
