Thousands of Calgarians packed Olympic Plaza on Saturday, Aug. 27, to catch a glimpse of one of the toughest off-road races to be held inside Downtown Calgary.
The purpose-built course, designed by Calgarian Shane Cuthbertson, transformed the plaza into a first-of-its-kind racecourse for the city.
The races were cut short due to the inclement weather that saw the city inundated with rain, hail, and lightning on Saturday. The event was called off after the first round of races by the amateur, expert, veteran and pro rider classes.
Races continued on Sunday in Steveville, Alberta.
German Red Bull athlete Manuel Lettenbichler took the top spot for the weekend of racing, followed by Canada’s Trystan Hart.
