After their pandemic hiatus, Fiestaval Latino adds to the summer heat without anyone having to hop on a plane.

Fiestaval calls Calgarians to celebrate all things Latin America from July 22 to 24 at Olympic Plaza.

“We’ve produced a Fiestaval that every wants to see,” said Christian Greiffenstein, program coordinator.

The most notable performers are the Mariachi Internacional Sol Azteca from Mexico, Michael Romance from the Dominican Republic playing Bachata, a musical fusion of Spanish guitar with indigenous Taino and Sub Saharan African musical elements as well as Jorge y Maria, world champion salsa dancers from Mexico.

Featured local acts from around Alberta include Selena Tribute and Rumba Caliente from Edmonton and Folklore Salvaoreño from Calgary to name a few.

“We have an incredible kids area with a specific stage for entertainment,” said Greiffenstein.

They offer mascots, dances, activities and interactive music, and classic bouncy castles.

Latin Eats

“There are so many incredible food vendors at Fiestaval. We have over 32, 100 per cent authentic vendors from our community,” said Greiffenstein.

One to look out for is Golden Cactus Mexican Grill, whic won the award for best food in Fiestaval 2019.

“Another Colombian vendor that we’re excited about: Norley’s Colombian Street Food located in Inglewood,” Greiffenstein said.

Greiffenstein encourages Calgarians to come up for the three-day event and see what else they can discover.

With Fiestaval in its 15th year and passionate volunteers as their back bone, they offer a solid foray into Latin culture.
