One dead in shooting outside downtown Calgary nightclub

One person is dead after a shooting outside a southwest Calgary nightclub, police said.

The Calgary police were called to the Junction Underground nightclub at 628 – 8 Avenue SW around 2:40 a.m. Sunday. Reports came in that someone had been shot outside the club.

When police arrived, a man in his 30s was found in medical distress. That man was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he later died, police said.

Officers secured the scene and began looking for suspects. During the search, another man in his 30s had gone to Foothills Hospital after being shot. Calgary police officers went to the hospital and believe that man is linked with the downtown nightclub shooting.

That man is in hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Calgary police said that it’s early in the investigation. They’re figuring out what happened and how the two men are potentially connected.

The victim will undergo an autopsy early in the week. Police said they would share more details on the shooting at that time.

Anyone with information on this shooting incident is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
