Calgary police have made multiple arrests in ongoing violent extortion cases, this time involving the alleged kidnapping of a man from Edmonton.

According to police, between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on May 6, four men kidnapped a man from his Edmonton home, assaulted and threatened at gunpoint before being taken from his home and driven to the Calgary community of Cityscape.

The suspects then attempted to force the victim to lure his friend, the actual target of the extortion, out of his Cityscape home. The victim refused and was allegedly assaulted again, police said.

At this time, the victim’s friend and his wife tried to leave their home but were followed and threatened with a gun before they went back into their home.

Shortly after, police found a vehicle they believe was involved in the incident and conducted a traffic stop near Métis Trail and 104 Avenue NE. Two men were arrested for their involvement in the Cityscape incident, but the kidnapping hadn’t yet been reported to police.

The other suspect drove the initial kidnapping victim back to Edmonton and dropped him near his home. He then called police.

On May 12, investigators found two more suspects during a traffic stop in the 600 block of Martindale Boulevard NE.

Four people were charged, and one man remains wanted on warrants.

Taranveer Singh, 24, of Calgary, Daksh Gautam, 25, of Calgary, Akashdeep Singh, 18, and Pardeep Singh, 24, both of Calgary, all face charges including kidnapping, unlawful confinement, assault and assault with a weapon and other offenses.

Gagandeep Singh, 29, of Calgary is still wanted by police.

“This is a significant escalation in violence in the extortion incidents that we have seen in Calgary so far,” said Supt. Jeff Bell of the CPS Criminal Operations & Intelligence Division, in a prepared media release.

“Since this series began, we have been working very closely with our policing partners nationally to share information and co-ordinate our response, which allowed us to quickly make arrests in this case.”

Since April 2025, Calgary police said there have been 45 extortion-related incidents in Calgary. 19 of them have involved shootings.

Eleven people have been charged.
