Third-party advertisers: Who’s backing whom in Calgary’s municipal election

Support LWC on Patreon

Third-party advertisers (TPAs) have emerged to play a more prominent role in Calgary’s 2021 municipal election.

A third-party advertiser is allowed to solicit donations under Alberta’s Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) but must be publicly registered prior to the Oct. 18 municipal election. These groups can advertise during an election period for any candidate or issue that appears on the ballot.

We’ve written a number of pieces on the influence of third-party advertisers in the upcoming election. Given the potential impact, we figured that the more you know about them – and the candidates they support, the better.

As a part of that, we wanted to keep a running list of support being provided (either through public endorsements or advertising/fundraising) to keep you up to date.

(Where possible we’ve linked to our candidate profile on the endorsed candidates.)
