Police say that investigators have laid charges against a man and a woman believed to be responsible for the trafficking of a female youth earlier this year.

At around 8:55 p.m. on March 25, 2020, police were called to the Sandman Hotel in downtown Calgary for a welfare check on a 15-year-old girl. They believed the girl to have been sexually exploited and possibly in danger.

Investigators learned the girl had been trafficked by a woman, who first introduced her to a man for the purposes of participating in sexual acts in exchange for drugs and money.

According to police, the girl was also allegedly coerced into subsequent sexual acts with the man and woman against her will. The victim was not able to legally consent to any of the acts, as the legal age of consent in Canada is 16.

Cheyenne Madison Savannah Lee Schmeikal, 19, faces several charges in relation.

She’s set to appear in court on Nov. 20.

Police have also charged Michael Todd Mazar, 48, is also facing charges.

He’s set to appear in court on Nov. 18.

Police are asking anyone with information that could aid in this investigation to contact Child Abuse Detective Amy Spence at 403-428-5457.
