One victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries after an attempted carjacking in the northeast earlier this week.

Calgary police were called out on Oct. 8 at 12:31 p.m. after reports of an attempted carjacking and assault in the 200 block of Martinvalley Crescent NE.

According to police, it’s believed the suspect demanded the vehicle of the first victim, but that person didn’t comply. Police said the suspect then assaulted that person using a pair of bolt cutters.

That victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries and was later updated to stable condition.

Police said that shortly after, the suspect targeted a second victim nearby and tried to steal their vehicle before fleeing the scene. That second victim suffered minor injuries and didn’t require medical attention.

Officers then located the suspect and made the arrest. According to police, after the arrest, the suspect appeared to experience a medical situation and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Amine Ayman Abdelli, 21, is facing multiple charges in connection with the incidents, including robbery, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, drug possession and breach of a release order.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
