Calgary police homicide detectives are investigating after a violent assault in the city’s southwest turned fatal early Wednesday.

Officers responded to the 2100 block of Woodview Drive SW on May 6 around 5:40 a.m. after reports of an assault. Police said they believe a person was injured in an assault and later died of injuries.

Police don’t believe the incident was random.

The investigation was ongoing Wednesday morning, and Woodview Drive SW was closed between Woodhill Court and Woodhill Blvd SW. Police said that access to a nearby strip mall at 523 Woodpark Blvd was shut down, and businesses in the area were affected.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 403-266-1234.
