An 18-year-old has been charged in connection with the stabbing of another teen outside a southwest Calgary high school on Friday.

Calgary police responded to reports that a 16-year-old male had been stabbed while on a parked bus in the 900 block of 75 Avenue SW. That’s the location of Henry Wise Wood High School.

Calgary police said the attacker left the scene but was found by officers two hours later.

Still, the school was put into a lockdown, according to police, to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

“This incident happened in a very public location outside of a school with many students and members of the public in the area,” Calgary police posted to social media.

“We recognize that witnessing such events can be deeply distressing.”

The Calgary police offered its Victim Assistance Support Team to witnesses or victims. They can be contacted at 403-428-8398, or at Calgary.ca/vast.

Calgary police believe it was a targeted attack that was the result of a dispute between the two teens, who were known to each other.

Brayden Calliou, 18, of Calgary is facing one charge of aggravated assault, one count of carry a concealed weapon and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The 16-year-old teen victim remains in hospital in stable condition.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
