The Calgary Police Service (CPS) Homicide Unit continues to investigate a Wednesday morning suspicious death in Ogden, the city’s 14th homicide of the year, that is believed to be related to organized crime.

CPS was called early Wednesday morning after reports of gunshots in the 7000 block of 20 Street S.E. Upon arrival, police located the victim dead outside his vehicle.

Nearly an hour later, members of the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service spotted a blue Nissan Sentra driving aggressively near the Elbow River bridge onto Weaselhead Road.

After fleeing a police traffic stop, the vehicle eventually came to a stop near Buffalo Run Blvd, where four men fled on foot, police said.

With the assistance of the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service, CPS took three people into custody, including one person close to Buffalo Run Blvd, and two more several hours later in the community of Palliser.

CPS believes the fourth man fled over the Stoney Trail pedestrian bridge into the community of Woodbine, where he may have then accessed the communities of Oakridge, Cedarbrae and Palliser.

CPS described the man as having a dark complexion, wearing dark clothing and shoes. Police say he may have approached members of the public seeking help or requesting a ride. Anyone who may have been approached by this individual or may have captured video that could assist with locating or identifying the man is urged to contact the police at 403-266-1234.

One person has since been released, while two individuals remain in custody on unrelated warrants; none are residents of the Tsuut’ina Nation.

An autopsy completed by the Office of the Calgary Police Chief Medical Examiner on Thursday has identified the victim as 32-year-old Feysal Osman Abdul-Aziz, Calgary’s 14th homicide this year.

“This is a targeted incident that is believed to have connections to organized crime,” Acting Inspector Darren Smith of the Calgary Police Service Major Crimes Section said in a CPS-issued release.

“While homicides have decreased compared to previous years, we fully understand the deep impact violence has on the community, even if there is no current or active risk to the public at this time. Our members continue to work diligently to advance the investigation, which is still in its early stages.”
