Calgary police are investigating a suspicious death after gunshots were reported in the city’s southeast early Wednesday.

The incident has closed a Calgary elementary school for the day.

Officers responded to a call in the 7000 block of 20 Street SE in Ogden around 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 after reports of gunshots and an injured man. When police arrived, the man was found dead at the scene.

According to police, a vehicle they believe was connected to the shooting was found abandoned, and one person was taken into custody.

Shortly after, Calgary police received a suspicious persons call from a resident in Palliser. Police responded, and two more people were taken into custody. Police don’t know yet if they’re tied to the shooting.

Calgary police believe the shooting was targeted, but they haven’t determined a specific motive. An autopsy will be done on Dec. 11

Traffic in the area is expected to be disrupted as the investigation continues.

As a result, Calgary police said the Ogden Elementary School will be closed for the day due to its proximity to the scene. Sherwood School and Banting and Best School are located in the area, along with St. Bernadette, for the Calgary Catholic School District.
