Up in Ward 2, we have four challengers hoping to take incumbent Jennifer Wyness’s seat.

Wyness won the seat in 2021, scooping it from embattled incumbent Joe Magliocca. Wyness locked up 12,616 votes, with Kim Tyers (now running in Ward 1) coming in second with 6,865 votes. Magliocca finished third.

Two of three parties (A Better Calgary and Calgary Party) are represented, with no official Communities First candidate in the mix.

Ward 2

Ward 2 is in northwest Calgary, and while it has some established communities, it sits on the northern periphery where there’s considerable new growth. Six of the communities would be considered established, and the rest new or developing.

The 2021 federal census population was 94,935, however, given Calgary’s substantial growth over the past four years and the number of new and developing communities in the area, the population today is likely much higher.

Five candidates are hoping to lock up the Ward 2 seat:

Jennifer Wyness (incumbent) – Independent

Trevor Cavanaugh – Independent

Shaukat Chaudhry – Independent (no website to link to)

John Garden – A Better Calgary Party

Candy Lam – The Calgary Party

Survey says!

Jennifer Wyness and Shaukat Chaudhry did not complete the LWC 2025 candidate survey. The other candidate’s responses are below. NOTE: John Garden was added later this afternoon.
