A Calgary Transit bus driver was robbed at knifepoint on July 29, by three youth who allegedly demanded that the driver give them their phone.
Calgary Police said that the driver, who was parked at the Erlton Station at 11:45 p.m., was able to de-escalate the situation and that a teen suspect allegedly left with an undisclosed amount of money.
“The driver called police and officers quickly located the group at the intersection of 25 Avenue S.W. and Macleod Trail S., where they were arrested without incident,” said CPS.
“An 11-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the robbery of the bus driver. A child under the age of 12 cannot be charged with a criminal offense under the Criminal Code of Canada. He was released into the custody of his parent.”
The youth were believed by investigators to be connected to a liquor store robbery that occurred at 11 p.m., on the same evening on 11 Avenue SW.
CPS said that a group of teens ran into the store located on the 500 block of 11 Avenue SW, and allegedly stole multiple bottles of liquor worth more than $200 each.
“A 14-year-old girl was charged with one count of shoplifting and three counts of failure to comply with a release order. Charges are pending against a 16-year-old girl in relation to the liquor store theft,” said CPS.
Inspector Jason Bobrowich said that the safety of victims is always the top priority for the service.
“Thanks to the swift response of our officers in the downtown area, the teen suspects were located and taken into custody, preventing further harm to the community.”
“While the teens are being dealt with for their criminal activities, we’ve also ensured that their families are connected with the full range of available supports to move forward and make positive choices in the future.”
