Calgarians looking to remember the sacrifices made by members of the Canadian Armed Forces will have various choices on Nov. 11, including indoor and outdoor locations.
Prominent Remembrance Day ceremonies are being held at the Southern Jubilee Auditorium and at the Military Museums, but Calgarians are being encouraged to attend ceremonies at local cenotaphs located across the city and at the Field of Crosses.
Speaking to LiveWire Calgary on Nov. 1, for the start of 11 days of remembrance, Councillor Andre Chabot, said it was important to remember the freedoms fought for by those who lost their lives in Canada’s armed conflicts and wars.
“It’s extremely important for people to remember what it is that these individuals did for us. For the protection of our rights and our freedoms, folks paid the ultimate sacrifice. There is no no greater contribution that you can make to society than than what these individuals have done for our country,” he said.
“We’ve been blessed with living in a world free of conflict and war, at least in this country, and for that we need to be thankful. We need to recognize that contribution that those individuals have made that has given us that freedom.”
