The work to complete the Victoria Park/Stampede LRT station has entered its final stage, but that does come with a final long weekend closure that will affect riders.

The station is set to be reduced to single track service on August 2 at 8 p.m. through to August 3 at 2 a.m., when the station will then be closed to riders until August 6 at 4 a.m.

Replacement bus service will be provided between the 39 Avenue Station and the City Hall/Bow Valley LRT stations.

“The work that Calgarians can expect to see happening around the station is related to some work next to the Big Four Building on track realignment there, some canopy construction work, and then overall some hardscaping and landscaping work around the station,” said Emma Stevens, Director of Communications and External Relations for CMLC.

“All of that is in support of us completing the project for fall 2024.”

She said that the pedestrian level crossings at 13, 14, and 17 Avenue SE would also be closed as a result of the construction work.

Pedestrians looking to access Stampede park were asked to use either the 12 Avenue SE and 25 Avenue SE entrances.

A right-hand northbound lane on Macleod Trail would also be closed over the construction period, although CMLC said there would be at least two lanes open at all times through the closure period.

“We’re really excited about the progress that we’re making on this project. And we’re really thrilled to have had the station up and running since December 2023 to support all of the events and programming happening in the culture and entertainment district—including stampede ‘24,” said Stevens.

“Now we’re in the final push to get the project over the finish line. So in fall 2024, we expect to open the station completely with all of the hardscaping and landscaping in place, and then we also look forward to opening the extension of 17 Avenue across Macleod Trail for the first time.”

CMLC said that there would additional intermittent single track service until the final completion of the project.
