Allegations of physical abuse have led to assault charges against employees in a northeast Calgary daycare investigation.

In December 2022, the Calgary Police Service was made aware of allegations of physical abuse that happened at Kidzee Early Learning and Childcare. It is a licensed childcare facility located at 11110 – 11 Street NE.

According to police, the parents of a child that attended the location found physical markings on the child and they notified police.

Police said an investigation was started immediately. Over four months, investigators reviewed and hundreds of hours of footage and conducted numerous interviews.

“This investigation required resources and collaboration both internally and externally, including CARRT, our Child Abuse Unit as well as working together with our partners at Alberta Health Services and the Ministry of Children’s Services,” said Staff Sergeant Brad Moore of the CPS Child Abuse Unit.

“Together, we were able to secure valuable evidence that would support the appropriate charges in relation to these disturbing allegations.”

As a result of the investigation, Rita Niure, 29 and Mursai Akbari, 31 each face one count of assault. Both will appear in court on May 11.

The daycare location remains permanently closed, police said.
