Plumes from a large industrial fire on the cul-de-sac of Monument Place SE were visible across the central part of the city on Sunday.

The Calgary Fire Department said they responded to the fire, which was spreading from pallets in a storage yard to nearby vehicles, just after 5:40 p.m.

CFD said they used large caibre hose lines and an aerial ladder to put large volumes of water onto the fire, to keep it from spreading.

Before the fire was brought under control, it was threatening nearby buildings. Some smoke damage occurred to those buildings interiors, and there was heat damage to exteriors.

No individuals were hurt in the fire.

The Fire Department said they also had to put out some minor brush fires that has been started by embers from the fire being transported by the wind.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
