Ward 10 Coun. Andre Chabot said Tuesday that he has no idea why the RCMP executed a search warrant last week and seized his devices as evidence in an ongoing investigation.

Chabot is involved in an RCMP investigation into alleged corruption involving a business. LWC has now been able to confirm one other councillor and the former mayor have cooperated with police on their investigation.

RCMP confirmed to LWC late Tuesday morning that there is an ongoing investigation.

“The RCMP Federal Policing NWR can confirm we have an ongoing investigation relating to a referral we received from Calgary Police Services in October 2025. To protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation, we have no further comment at this time,” read an email statement from Jessica Murphy, acting communications team lead for the Federal Policing Northwest Region Strategic Communications.

They did not provide details as to the nature of the investigation or any other organizations that were a part of the probe.

The Calgary Police Service also provided a statement on Tuesday.

“The Calgary Police Service can confirm that a complaint was referred to the RCMP in October 2025. To protect the integrity and confidentiality of the ongoing investigative process, no further details will be released at this time,” read the statement from Emma Poole, director of the Strategic Communications Section.

Chabot confirmed that a search warrant was executed last Thursday (March 19).

“I’m fully cooperating with the police,” he said.

“I’m hoping that somehow, it’ll result in something that they can utilize. But at this point, I have no idea what they’re investigating, but I’m fully cooperating with them.”

Chabot said he was only asked to turn over his devices as a part of the investigation. He said he was not questioned.  Chabot also said that this is the first time that he’s been contacted by the RCMP about this investigation.

He said that he didn’t believe that he was the target of the investigation.

Chabot is being represented by Calgary criminal defence lawyer Alan Hepner. Hepner’s office confirmed their representation on Tuesday morning.

LWC has also now confirmed that the RCMP also executed warrants on former Ward 4 Coun. Sean Chu’s property.

“A number of judicial authorization [sic] have been apparently granted and executed and my client has been cooperative throughout and respects the legal process,” read an email response from Shamsher Kothari K.C., who is the legal counsel representing Chu.

“No charges have been laid and I look forward to a swift conclusion of this investigation.”

Former Mayor Jyoti Gondek said she was cooperating with the investigation. A search warrant was executed at her home, and her cellphone was seized.

“I’ve been fully cooperative and respect the legal process,” read a message from Jyoti Gondek.

“At the same time, this has been very invasive, and my lawyer and I will be reviewing it closely to ensure it was justified.”

Former Ward 7 Coun. Terry Wong, who was rumoured to have been subject to the same investigation, cleared the air on Tuesday afternoon in a message to the media.

“I am unaware of or involved in these recent developments and/or police actions, nor have I been asked about this story except by media,” he wrote via text message.

“As many in the media have experienced, I have always cooperated with the media appropriately as City Councillor and private citizen. There is nothing further I can add now.”

Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas said he was aware of the emerging details, and he listened in as Chabot answered questions from the media.

“I am aware of the media story suggesting that there is an RCMP investigation involving a city councillor,” he said.

“I have not been contacted by the police, and because this involves an ongoing investigation with potential legal implications, I have no further comment at this time.”

The City of Calgary issued a statement Tuesday afternoon.

“The City has been made aware of the issue and is looking into it. For this reason, we are unable to comment at this time,” their email statement read.
