A super-sized crowd headed down to the Calgary Stampede on Saturday as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth pop above the million-visitor mark.
Now there’s one final day.
Saturday saw 143,035 people click the turnstiles, bringing the overall mark to 1,109,470 for the first nine days. We think we have to acknowledge how braving that heat must have been a significant challenge Saturday. It was a hot one.
The action was especially in the International Livestock Auctioneer Finals, which went ahead Saturday. What started with 26 contestants ended as a finale with the top ten who are then judged by a panel of five. The judges look for spotting bids, rhythm, clarity and voice control, their appearance, repartee, and their livestock knowledge and ability to conduct the sale.
It was also Wild Card Saturday at the rodeo (Photos below). Competitors were vying for a spot in the Championship Sunday showdown, where $50K is up for grabs. (Saturday results here.)
The final championship heat for the Cowboys Rangeland Derby is also set for Sunday night. Layne MacGillivray, Kurt Bensmiller and Kris Molle will go in the final heat of the evening. Bensmiller will be making his sixth appearance in the final heat, while it’s the first time for the other two. (Results here.)
Whether it’s the Midway rides, the games, the food, or the entertainment in Nashville North or at the Coca-Cola Stage, there’s still lots you can catch up on down at the Stampede.
It’s the final Sunday of the 2022 Calgary Stampede. Make it a good one!
