  1. Darren, thank you for providing this forum for more debate. I am proud to know and I deeply respect Esmahan and Jeremy for their insight, passion and *action* towards the city we need to be.

    A bone to pick with you. Your comment – however tongue-in-cheek it may have been – that “TIPP is my donation to the city” is way off-base. Property taxes are the price we pay for water we can drink, toilets that flush, roads we drive on, buses that take us places, first responders who rescue us, waste collection that takes away what we can’t use,…,etc, etc, etc.

    There’s a running narrative among certain politicians and private lobby groups that somehow taxes = waste. NOTHING could be further from the truth. Taxes are what pay for the civil society that benefits us all. The sooner we turn the conversation towards how fortunate we are to acquire efficient public services that deliver the public good that powers our communities, the better off we’ll all be.
