Calgary events: Things to do Oct. 4 to 10

Friday Oct. 4

Calgary Zoo Panda Cub Farewell

What: Calgary’s favourite twins are packing their bags and moving to China this fall. The Calgary Zoo’s Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue are heading to the Giant Panda Research Base in Chengdu, China. The Zoo is sending them off with a celebration of their time here, games, activities and face painting.

When: October 4, 5 and 6, 2019.

Telus Spark Fiver Fridays 

What: Check out more than 250 hands-on exhibits at Telus Spark for $5.00 admission on Friday’s. Featuring $5 drinks, food, bite-sized yoga sessions and a DIY stress ball station. Must be 18 or older. Admission does not include special travelling exhibitions.

Saturday Oct. 5

YYC Alternative Fall Market

What: Support and shop a variety of unique local makers, artists and small business owners. The YYC Alternative Fall Market will have everything from home decor, ceramics, jewellery and clothing. Family and pet friendly.

Where: Inglewood Community Association Hall, 1740 24 Avenue SE

Time: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Cobb’s Adventure Park Pumpkin Palooza

What: Spend some quality time with your family walking through a pumpkin patch, taking perfect fall photos and picking your favourite pumpkins for carving. This family-friendly event will feature princesses and props for photos too. Family friendly.

When: October 5 and 6, 2019

NorthYeast Brewfest

What: Sips on suds from five local Calgary breweries. Tickets include four flights and on-site childcare. Breweries include Cabin Brewing Company, Railyard Brewing and Rapid Ascent Brew Company.

Sunday Oct. 6

Alberta Ballet Costume Sale

What: Alberta Ballet is opening up their doors for a costume sale like no other. Open to the public, all sales go towards supporting aspiring young dancers at the Alberta Ballet School. All costumes are final sale and in AS IS condition.

Outdoor Yoga at Stanley Park 

What: Like it didn’t even snow last week, outdoor yoga is back on in SW Calgary’s Stanley Park. Classes are for all levels and everyone is welcome. Practice in the grass or bring your own mat or blanket. No signup needed. 

When: October 6, 2019

Where: Stanley Park SW. Park in the lot off 42 Ave & 1A Street SW and go through the trees, around the flower beds.

CAMP Festival 2019

What: Immerse yourself in the art of storytelling at CAMP Festival 2019. Featuring more than 30 creative luminaries from across North America and Europe, workshops and unique spaces to work or chat. This festival is all about showcasing the best and brightest in the creative storytelling industry.

Tuesday Oct. 8

Triwood Farmers Market

What: Shop local. Shop fresh. Check out some food, produce, jewelry and decor from local vendors. The Triwood Farmers market runs weekly every Tuesday until Oct. 15. Runs rain or shine.

Studio Bell Date Night

What: Enjoy special $10 admission into Studio Bell with your partner. With five floors of exhibitions to explore, interactive activities, memorabilia from four Canadian music halls of fame and new temporary exhibitions celebrating iconic Canadians. Special tours go “behind the glass” allowing visitors to check out the National Music Centre’s collection more privately.

Ghost Tours at Heritage Park

Thursday Oct. 10

Tegan and Sara

What: Tegan and Sara make their stop in Calgary for their ‘Hey, I’m Just Like You’ tour. There are two shows at the Bella Concert Hall at Mount Royal University. An early show starts at 7 p.m. and a late show at 10 p.m.
