Calgary Public Library Bill Ptacek let a little secret slip while speaking to Calgary City Council on Friday.

For over a year, the library has been letting patrons know that the popular Fire Engine 23 exhibit that was housed at the ‘old’ central library would be moving to a new home.

Until today, we didn’t know where. But while speaking to Ward 2 Coun. Joe Magliocca, Ptacek mentioned that the fire engine would be going to Magliocca’s ward.

“The little Sage Hill Library is so popular, and so well used, we know, we don’t even have to think about it – a new library there is going to be so successful,” said Ptacek.

“By the way, it’s where the fire truck is ultimately supposed to go.”

The engine isn’t bound for the current Sage Hill Library. In 2017, the library opened a starter library in a 1,700 square foot space in Sage Hill.

According to the city’s website, the new location for the permanent Sage Hill Library is set for 251 Sage Hill Boulevard.

There is no set date for construction to begin, but the money for construction is in the current budget that’s being debated by council today.

Fire Engine 23 was a decommissioned fire truck that was donated to the Calgary Public Library by the Calgary Fire Department, and converted into an indoor play space for children.
