Calgary police are currently investigating after a woman and child were found dead inside a northeast Calgary home on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers went to a home in the community of Temple around 2:05 p.m. Wednesday for a check on welfare of a resident in the home.

Once officers entered the home, they found a woman in her 40s and a child under the age of 10 dead inside.

“The Calgary Police Service would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and neighbours of the affected tragedy,” said District 5 Staff Sgt. Mike Saad.

“Our victim assistance units are available to everyone.”

Calgary police Chief Katie McLellan said that it’s the second time in a month that officers have had to respond to a suspicious death involving a child.

“These incidents are heartbreaking and have a significant impact on the families and loved ones of the deceased, individuals, members of our community, first responders, and our entire city,” she said.

“Our members are here to fully investigate the circumstances around these deaths, and we appreciate the community’s support and patience as we sort out the details of what has occurred here today.”

S/Sgt Saad said that there were few details available, and that there are multiple different factors that go into an investigation like this.

He also said they do not believe there is any additional risk to the public, and they don’t believe there are any outstanding suspects.
