Ward 10 Coun. Andre Chabot said Tuesday that he has no idea why the RCMP executed a search warrant last and seized his devices as evidence in an ongoing investigation.
As first reported by CBC on the morning of March 24, Chabot is involved in an RCMP investigation into at least one city councillor and alleged corruption involving a business.
RCMP confirmed to LWC late Tuesday morning that there is an ongoing investigation.
“The RCMP Federal Policing NWR can confirm we have an ongoing investigation relating to a referral we received from Calgary Police Services in October 2025. To protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation, we have no further comment at this time,” read an email statement from Jessica Murphy, acting communications team lead for the Federal Policing Northwest Region Strategic Communications.
The Calgary Police Service also provided a statement on Tuesday.
“The Calgary Police Service can confirm that a complaint was referred to the RCMP in October 2025. To protect the integrity and confidentiality of the ongoing investigative process, no further details will be released at this time,” read the statement from Emma Poole, director of the Strategic Communications Section.
Chabot confirmed that the search warrant was executed last Thursday (March 19).
“I’m fully cooperating with the police,” he said.
“I’m hoping that somehow, it’ll result in something that they can utilize. But at this point, I have no idea what they’re investigating, but I’m fully cooperating with them.”
Chabot said he was only asked to turnover his devices as a part of the investigation. He said he was not questioned. Chabot also said that this is the first time that he’s been contacted by RCMP about this investigation.
He said that he didn’t believe that he was the target of the investigation.
Chabot is being represented by Calgary criminal defence lawyer Alan Hepner. Hepner’s office confirmed their representation on Tuesday morning.
Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas said he was aware of the emerging details, and he listened in as Chabot answered questions from the media.
“I am aware of the media story suggesting that there is an RCMP investigation involving a city councillor,” he said.
“I have not been contacted by the police, and because this involves an ongoing investigation with potential legal implications, I have no further comment at this time.”
This is a developing story…
