Calgary police are looking for a suspect after a stolen wallet led to tens of thousands in unauthorized purchases late last year.

According to police, on Nov. 27, 2025, between 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., an unknown male stole a man’s wallet while the victim was having lunch near the 200 block of Barclay Parade SW.

Police said that the victim placed his jacket on the back of a chair when the suspect is alleged to have approached from behind and removed the wallet from one of the jacket pockets.

The victim didn’t know the wallet was stolen until after the suspect left the area, police said.

It’s believed that the suspect then made several online purchases using the stolen credit cards in the wallet, police said. According to police, it was $43,000 in transactions.

Shortly after, the victim began receiving phone calls from people posing as RBC fraud investigators, trying to get personal and financial information from him.

Police said the suspect is in his late 20s to early 30s, roughly 6-foot tall with a medium build and short beard. At the time of the alleged theft, he was wearing a black hooded jacket, grey Nike sweatpants, white shoes and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
