Calgary police are investigating what they believe to be a targeted organized crime shooting outside a southeast restaurant late Tuesday evening.

According to the Calgary Police Service (CPS), they were called to the parking lot outside of the Cactus Club restaurant in the 7000 block of Macleod Trail SE after receiving reports that a man had been shot in his vehicle.

When they arrived, one person was located suffering from gunshot wounds. That person was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The victim has since been upgrade to stable condition, police said.

After reviewing CCTV from the area, Calgary police believe the victim was targeted as he left the restaurant. They said they’re investigating the shooting as being organized crime related.

“Any time shots are fired in our city, it’s concerning, and even more so when it puts innocent bystanders at risk,” said Acting Insp. Ben Lawson of the CPS Organized Crime and Offender Management Section, in a prepared release.

“Targeted or not, this type of violence is unacceptable, and we have put resources in place to identify and hold these offenders accountable.”

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around the time of the shooting to contact them at 403-266-1234.
