In efforts to further position itself as the premier destination for women’s collegiate sports in Canada, the University of Calgary will host its inaugural Women in Sport Scholarship Breakfast come February.

The landmark event is said to advance opportunity, equity and support for women’s varsity athletics, and will take place at Hudson in downtown Calgary on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, according to a school-issued press release.

The morning will feature a panel of women sport leaders and bring together student-athletes, coaches, alumni and community members, with proceeds from the breakfast going to support the Dinos Women in Sport Scholarship Fund, helping student-athletes pursue academic and athletic excellence without financial compromise.

“Our mission is to develop leaders through sport, and the statistics are clear: the vast majority of women in C-suite leadership positions have a sport background,” Dinos Director of Athletics Ben Matchett said in the release.

“We want to remove barriers and make the University of Calgary the destination for the very best women’s student-athletes in Canada.”

In the school’s 60 year history, Dinos female athletes have cemented themselves among the most successful in Canada, capturing 68 Canada West championships, 22 U SPORTS national titles and producing 29 Olympians, who together have earned eight Olympic medals.

“While we have made significant strides in the support of women’s sport, the work isn’t finished, and this breakfast will kickstart a new era in women’s athletics at UCalgary,” Matchett said.

Sponsorship opportunities and tickets for the Women in Sport Scholarship Breakfast are available now.
