The unofficial final result of Calgary’s municipal election is in!

There were 337,679 votes cast in the ward races and 348,650 in the mayoral race, according to the Elections Calgary unofficial results.

“I would like to thank the approximately 4,500 election workers and Calgarians who participated in the 2025 General Election. It was our goal to deliver an efficient, accessible and legislatively compliant election, which was only possible because of your participation in the process,” said Kate Martin, Returning Officer, in a prepared release.

“Your community is shaped by the outcome of the election — voting is one of the most important ways you can advocate for yourself, and your community and I appreciate your interest in being part of the local democratic process.”

Potential recounts

Mayoral candidate Sonya Sharp has indicated that she will be requesting a recount of the election night mayoral results. She said given the margin of victory was only 585 votes, she said it was appropriate for her to request that the Chief Returning Officer conduct a recount.

“People stood in line for, in some cases, hours and in some cases outdoors on a frosty fall evening to exercise their franchise in our municipal election,” Sharp said.

“That is the very foundation of our government, its strength and the source of legitimacy for all that comes from City Hall. And every one of those votes deserves to be appropriately accounted for.”

It is also expected that a recount will come in Ward 12, where 29 votes separate A Better Calgary Party’s Mike Jamieson from the second-place candidate, Sarah Ferguson of the Calgary Party.

As of Tuesday evening, no official request for recounts has been made.

For his part, Mayor-elect Jeromy Farkas said that he’s not been made aware of any schedule changes related to the planned Oct. 29 swearing-in.

Should a recount be done, it would likely be complete before that day.

“A lot of people have been working hard around the clock to be able to get us the results that we have today,” Farkas said on Tuesday.

“They worked long into the night to be able to provide Calgarians the assurances that this election was properly run and I fully support the process going on.”
