Calgary’s Ward 6 is an open race with four candidates vying for the seat in this west-side ward.

The seat was vacated by former Ward 6 Coun. Richard Pootmans, who left the role last November. In the 2021 election, Pootmans handily won with 16,388 votes, with his nearest rival being Lana Bentley, who garnered 9,558 votes.

There are four fresh faces now looking to lock up votes: Joanne Birce, Inam Teja, Jeff Watson and John Pantazopoulos.

Ward 6

This is a west Calgary ward with 17 communities, including a mix of developing communities and established, inner-city communities. There’s an interesting physical divide in the neighbourhoods owing to Sarcee Trail cutting it virtually in half, creating east-west sections

The population, based on 2021 federal census numbers, is 98,175. With Calgary’s population growth overall, and added new growth in this ward, the population is likely considerably higher today.

As mentioned, the four candidates running to represent this ward are:

Joanne Birce – Independent

Inam Teja – The Calgary Party

Jeff Watson – Independent

John Pantazopoulos – Independent
