Down in Ward 13, we have a two-person contest between incumbent Dan McLean and challenger Elliot Weinstein.

In the 2021 municipal election, McLean bested long-time former Ward 13 councillor Diane Colley-Urquhart (who finished third) and Jay Unsworth. McLean won that ward by more than 4,400 votes.

This time it’s a party versus party affair, with McLean flying the Communities First colours and Weinstein running under the Calgary Party banner.

Ward 13

Ward 13 is a geographically growing part of southwest Calgary, owing to its location along the south and southwest boundary of the city. According to the City’s ward profile page for Ward 13, there are 14 neighbourhoods in the ward, including many new ones like Belmont, Alpine Park, Pine Creek, and Yorkville.

The 2021 census population for the ward was tallied at 91,535, however, given the population growth in Calgary and the addition of the new communities, the number of citizens in this area is likely substantially higher than it was four years ago.

As mentioned, there are two candidates running in this ward.

Dan McLean (incumbent) – Communities First

Elliot Weinstein – The Calgary Party

Survey says!
