Calgary police are looking for the public’s help to identify a woman who may have interfered with a pathway barrier, contributing to the death of a cyclist.

According to police, they were informed on Sept. 19 that a cyclist had died of injuries sustained in a crash that happened around 10:45 a.m. the previous day.  The incident happened on a pathway under the Reconciliation Bridge in the 500 block of Riverside Avenue SE.

Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and found that minutes before the crash, a woman was seen interfering with a pathway barrier, causing it to cover a portion of the cycle path.

According to police, the cyclist, who was riding an e-bike, was travelling eastbound on the path and unaware of the obstruction. The cyclist, a man in his 80s, hit the swinging arm of the barrier and was knocked to the ground.

The man was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

Investigators are hoping to locate a woman who may have information about the case.

She’s described as having long, dark hair that was tied with a white ribbon, and she was wearing a shirt that read “Peace for All.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
