On Sunday, Aug. 24, 1,216 first-year students will begin their post-secondary journey by moving into their new home.

Returning students will move in throughout the following week. Total residency numbers are set to be more than 3,000 students, according to UCalgary.

According to a UCalgary-issued media release, students living in residence benefit from access to academic and wellness support, leadership and volunteer opportunities, and the convenience of being close to classes, among others.

More than 120 students and staff volunteers will be on campus during move-in day to welcome students. Information booths will be available at the Service Fair in the Aurora Quad, where staff and volunteers will assist with meal plans and answer questions about residence life, the release says.

“Living on campus isn’t just about having a place to stay, it’s about creating an environment that strengthens the student experience,” said Shane Royal, Senior Director of Ancillary Services.

“Move-in day is a celebration of that, and a chance for students to meet their new neighbours and explore their new home at UCalgary.”

The school’s meal plan, dubbed the All You Care To Eat meal plan, gives students access to a wide range of fresh food options. Students can choose what, when, and how much they eat to stay nourished throughout the academic year. The plan is not exclusive to residency students.

Full move-in details, including building-specific information, were emailed to students on Aug. 10, according to the UCalgary website.
