The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating a police shooting that happened in the deep southwest community of Yorkville in Calgary, on Aug. 18.

Calgary Police said that they were called to the community at approximately 12:55 p.m., on Monday, after a 911 hangup at a home on the 300 block of Yorkville Road SW.

They said in a statement that the call was believed to be connected to a domestic incident that involved a weapon inside of that residence. Police did not say what type of weapon was involved in the incident.

“Prior to police arrival, one man fled the residence and was located by officers a short distance away near 194 Avenue and Sheriff King Street SW. A confrontation occurred, resulting in multiple officers using a variety of use-of-force tools, including one officer discharging their Service firearm,” said CPS, via media release.

The person who was shot by police was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“One CPS officer was assessed by EMS at the scene and no physical injuries were reported. No members of the public were injured,” said CPS.

The service said that because of the incident being investigated by ASIRT, no further details would be available.
