The Calgary Airport Authority, which manages the Calgary International Airport and the Springbank Airport, has re-branded to become Calgary Airports.
The new brand includes a new logo, a new visual identity for the airports, and a new naming convention meant to reflect the evolving operations, although the legal name of the Calgary Airport Authority remains unchanged.
“This brand evolution is about more than a new look, it’s about aligning our identity with the energy, ambition and authenticity that define our airports, our people and our region,” said Chris Dinsdale, President and CEO at Calgary Airports.
Calgary Airports introduced a new YYC logo to go along with the re-branding, which was designed to better stand on it’s own as a wordmark that would be recognized in both of Canada’s official languages.
“YYC is a unique and complex brand, one that many Calgarians have embraced to represent more than just our airport, but our entire city,” said Jocelyn Alexander, Manager of Digital and Social at Creative Content at Calgary Airports.
“We love sharing our call sign with Calgary and are excited to create a brand that will stand out as YYC Calgary Airport—a safe port, a critical connector, a new adventure, and the comfort of home.”
The new brand came about as a result of a year-long creative process, that Calgary Airports said came from input from both the airport community and from guests.
The new design for YYC was said to have drawn inspiration from Calgary’s civic brand, Blue Sky City.
The re-brand came at a time when the Calgary International Airport, now referred to as YYC Calgary International Airport with a greater emphasis on the YYC call sign, is undergoing significant infrastructure upgrades.
Among those were the launch of the YYC AreoNex aviation hub, a centralized screening project for domestic travellers, and the $201 million west runway rehabilitation project that is expected to be completed in 2025.
