The Calgary Stampede Parade officially starts at 9 a.m. on July 3, and is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to the downtown core.
But for early risers, prelude entertainment will be available on the parade route from performers and cultural groups starting at 7:45 a.m.
This year’s parade marshal is Shania Twain, who will be joined by parade celebrity judge Devon Cole and 108 groups who will be marching or presenting their floats.
The parade starts at 9 Avenue SE next to Calgary city hall, and goes west along 9 Avenue until 10 Street SW, where it goes to north to 6 Avenue SW, before finishing on 4 Street SE.
Visitors to the Stampede parade are being encouraged to walk, bike, or use Calgary Transit to reach the parade route owing to closures for parade setup starting at 6 a.m. and lasting throughout the length of the parade until approximately 2 p.m. in the afternoon.
Parking lots on 9 Avenue, Macleod Trail, and surrounding areas to the parade route will be closed.
Free admission to the Calgary Stampede will be offered to visitors after the parade from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Of note, attendance at the Sneak-a-Peek night was 35,715, down from the 40,499 that attended the first night in last year’s record-breaking year.
