Calgary based WestJet notified the public on July 13, that the airline had a cybersecurity breach into internal systems and into the WestJet App.
WestJet said the breach has restricted access for some users.
“We have activated specialized internal teams in cooperation with law enforcement and Transport Canada to investigate the matter and limit impacts,” read a media release.
The airline said that despite the breach, they are continuing to respond to the incident.
Operations of WestJet and the safety of customers remains unaffected by the breach.
“We are actively working to understand the extent of impact and have expedited resolution efforts. We apologize to our guests and employees for any interruptions they may be experiencing as a result,” said WestJet.
As part of the incident, WestJet will be updating the public every 12 hours, or sooner, at an incident information page on WestJet.com.
Both WestJet customers and staff are being advised to take extra caution around the sharing of personal details, following the breach.
