This year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks are set to be launched from one of the most visible parts of the downtown core, Prince’s Island Park.

Adding to the midnight fun, the City of Calgary is set to present four hours of family entertainment at the park and at Calgary Parking Lot 59, starting at 8 p.m.

“I’m hoping many Calgarians will come together for an unforgettable New Year’s celebration under the sparkling skies at Prince’s Island Park,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

“This is a magical time to unite, celebrate our shared moments from the past year and ignite our hopes for a future filled with promise.”

The outdoor evening will feature activities, live music, and food trucks, followed by the fireworks synchronized to music from Canadian artists on CJSW 90.9 FM.

Free event parking for New Year’s Eve will be available eastbound on the south side of Memorial Drive from 10 Street NW to 4a Street NW, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

There will be road closures for pedestrian safety in effect from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Memorial Drive, eastbound and westbound between 10 Street NW and 4 Street NE.

Crescent Road NW from 7a Street NW to Centre A Street NW will also be a no-stopping zone from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Calgarians looking to avoid the traffic will be able to take transit, which has extended hours until the early morning hours of January 1.

CTrains will be running until 4 a.m., and bus routes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 22, 301, 302, and MAX Orange, MAX Yellow, MAX Teal and MAX Purple will run until 3 a.m.

Parking rates will be in effect for all ParkPlus zones and in Calgary Parking lots and parkades.
