Death at SAIT residence under investigation

Calgary police are investigating after a student was found dead inside a residence at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

Officers responded around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday to a residence tower in the 100 block of Dr. Carpenter Circle NW for reports of a deceased person.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner attended the scene and an autopsy is being done, police said.

The death remains undetermined at this time and the Calgary police Homicide Unit is working to determine if the death is criminal. Detectives have begun interviewing witnesses and notifying next of kin.

They said there is no risk to public safety.
