Calgary and its water-serving partners headed in a promising direction Tuesday, as consumption dropped below 500 million litres.

After the second day of Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions, citizens shed another 36 million litres in daily water use, bringing Tuesday’s total to 497 million litres of water used. City officials have been targeting 450 million litres as the safe threshold to preserve a safe water supply.

“While this is still above our daily target of 450 million liters per day, it’s an encouraging sign that people are taking the needed steps to save water,” said Infrastructure Service GM Michael Thompson.
