Victim of targeted shooting in Carrington identified by Calgary Police

Calgary Police have identified 42-year-old Hoang Phuoc Dat Nguyen as the victim in a targeted shooting that occurred on Aug. 16.

Police said that the shooting death of Nguyen was deemed a homicide following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The service said they responded to reports of a shooting in the 14200 block of 1 Street NW at approximately 5 p.m. on Friday. Officers located Nguyen deceased.

“A short time after the shooting was reported, a vehicle fire was reported in Rocky View County, between 176 Avenue and Township Road 264. It is believed the vehicle fire may be related to the shooting,” said CPS.

Investigators have asked the public for CCTV or dashcam footage of the homicide, and for information from anyone who may have seen a black Dodge Caravan travelling north between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

“We are also asking for information from anyone who may have had contact with the victim in the two days leading up to the homicide.”
