Calgary Police seized a number of firearms, including a military and police style assault rifle, leading to numerous charges against two Calgary men in August.
Charges were laid against Robert Cvitanovic, 53, and Rory William Dane Libbrecht, 25, following what investigators said began as an investigation into a stolen motorcycle.
That vehicle, which was taken from Seton on August 4, was alleged by police to have been taken to a residence in the 6700 block of Temple Drive NE.
“As a result, our officers executed a search warrant at the residence on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, in relation to the stolen motorcycle, and also recovered a large quantity of drugs, multiple weapons and ammunition,” said CPS.
Among the weapons sized by police included a Smith and Wesson M&P (military and police) 15 assault rifle, a Winchester 12-gague shotgun, a disassembled Glock handgun, 279 rounds of .223-calibre ammunition, 38 rounds of 12-gague shotgun ammunition, 36 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 14 rounds of .22LR-calibre ammunition.
Police also seized 87 grams of methamphetamine, 237 grams of psilocybin, 35 grams of cocaine, approximately 7 grams of crack cocaine, and 7,500 ml of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB).
The stolen motorcycle was also recovered by investigators.
Cvitanovic was charged with five counts of trafficking; three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm; two counts of possession of restricted ammunition; two counts of breach of probation; hazardous storage of a firearm; possession of a weapon obtained by crime; driving while suspended; failure to comply with a release order; and proceeds of crime under $5,000.
Libbrecht was charged with four counts of failure to comply with a release order and possession of crack cocaine.
