GlobalFest to once again light up Calgary’s night sky

Fireworks are set to snap, crackle, and pop at this year’s GlobalFest, along with many other events to enjoy with the whole family. 

GlobalFest is set to go ahead from Aug. 15 to 24 at Elliston Park. The festival celebrates Calgary’s multicultural communities, mainly through spectacular fireworks demonstrations.

This year, attendees can expect to see world-class pyro-musical artists from across the globe. Artists from Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and the USA are all set to take the nightly stage. Included in the celebrations are multiple performances, children’s programming, and international food, according to GlobalFest

“We have about 24 different culture pavilions, cultural performances, we have two different stages, and we have 25 different food booths and food trucks,” said Hunter Pratt, Marketing and Communication Coordinator at GlobalFest.

“Throughout the festival, as soon as the doors open, we have our Passport Pursuit as well, in that we encourage the festival patrons to pick up a booklet and explore each of the cultural pavilions so that they can look and explore a new culture, and they can ask the Pavilion partners a question in regards to their country.”

The winner of the Passport Pursuit will receive roundtrip tickets provided by Air Canada said Pratt.

Each year GlobalFest has a theme they stick to when creating their firework spectacles.

“Every year we do a different theme. Last year I believe it was Euro Tour and this year we’re doing the Americas,” said Pratt.

The winner of the fireworks head-to-head will return the following year to open the festival, according to Pratt. 

The fireworks are planned to happen every night at the festival around 9 p.m., or when deemed safe. 

Elliston Park opens their gates at 6 p.m. nightly.
