Calgary’s 311 system was briefly impacted by the global IT outage Friday, and there have been some incoming flights delayed or cancelled into the international airport.
An error in an update done by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike impacted IT systems globally, including machines running Microsoft systems. Here’s more from CNBC on the CrowdStrike situation.
The City of Calgary said Friday that they reported no significant issues impacting City services due to the global CrowdStrike outage. The City of Calgary’s 311 system did experience a brief issue, and the backup was immediately initiated.
“311 experienced some technical issues with phone lines this morning, but Calgarians are now able to contact 311 by phone, Calgary.ca and the 311 app,” read an email response from the City of Calgary.
“The City continues to monitor the situation and will respond as needed.”
Airlines around the world were impacted by the outage, however, the Calgary International Airport said the impact to them was limited.
“We are expecting some delays and cancellations for those airlines impacted by the outage. Our largest airline partners have not been impacted by the outage,” read an email from FlyYYC.
“Our operations teams are working diligently to support impacted airlines.”
Airport officials encouraged travellers to check with their specific airline on any potential travel changes before they leave for the airport.
