There were 201,260 people who made their way to the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth on Sunday, marking one of the biggest single-day attendance figures in Calgary Stampede history.
Many of the guests joined in at the massive Tim Horton Family Day breakfast to begin the day and then got free entry up until 11 a.m.
It’s going to continue to stay hot on the Stampede Grounds this week, and they’ve got a plan to make sure visitors have plenty of options to cool down. They’ve got stuff planned for the staff and the stock, too!
After coming in second the first two nights, Jason Glass extended his lead on the Cowboys Rangeland Derby field, turning in the fastest time Sunday night with a 1:10.78. After the opening weekend, Glass holds a three-quarter second lead over veteran Rae Croteau and more than a full second over opening night leader, Chad Fike. Canadian cowboys continue to rake in the day cash at the Calgary Stampede rodeo, with Sundre, Alberta’s Wyatt Gleeson riding bull Red Rocker to an 86.5 and the $7,200 in day money.
“I had a really good bull. I've seen him a few times," Gleeson said after the ride.
"He's really consistent, bucks really hard and fits into my style where I can kind of show off a little bit.”
Meanwhile, Zeke Thurston from Big Valley, Alberta, claimed the day money in saddle bronc on both Saturday and Sunday, with the latter ride aboard After Party scoring a blistering 88.5. Full rodeo results can be found here.
