Albertans have once again chosen Olivia and Noah as the top names for babies.
Olivia has remained the top name for Alberta parents for 11 years in a row, while Noah has been at the top for the past five—with Oliva battling back and forth with Ava, Emma, and Sophia for the number one name since 2008.
In 2023, there were 47,263 births registered in Alberta, with 210 of those children named Olivia and 276 named Noah.
“Bringing a child into the world is a truly momentous occasion. Whether the name you chose was in the top 10 or one of a kind, these names are only the beginning of the endless possibilities that lie ahead for each child,” said Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction on behalf of the Government of Alberta.
In second place for 2023, Liam and Amelia, followed in third by Sophia and the male-gendered version of Olivia, Oliver.
Among the less popular names for children last year were those of some of Canada’s politicians.
